My Top 5 Christmas Songs

1. Pedro The Lion – God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman
A classic, but David Bazan has made it even better by writing two more verses. I love the way he articulates the notes, it’s so emotive.
2. Sufjan Stevens – Come On! Let’s Boogy to the Elf Dance!

Of all of Sufjan’s Christmas songs, I think this is far and away the best.

*you can find this song somewhere else other than that link up there

3. The Knife – Christmas Reindeer
Ok, aside from the intro this isn’t very Christmassy.. it’s more dark dancehall music from the Kinfe. But who says every Christmas song has to be sappy?
4. Run D.M.C – Christmas Is

“Fight poverty, give to the needy, don’t be like the Grinch ‘cause the Grinch is greedy.”  Awesome.
5. Yo La Tengo – It’s Christmas Time
This is the only song on the list that I would want to play for my Grandma. It really has that happy sappy Christmas thing going on, and yet it’s still a  good song.

What a list. I still haven’t heard “Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth” by David Bowie and Bing Crosby! ugh! Nor have I heard “Last Christmas” by WHAM!, another cheesy classic. It’s past Christmas and I still haven’t heard these.

  2. Please remove or credit the link for the Sufjan song. Thanks.
